Before Start of Vermont City Marathon 2004

I am an ordinary runner who does not view running as an ordinary endeavor.  Those who make it an ordinary endeavor miss the essence of the running experience and running lifestyle.  The thoughts and feelings while running are hard to capture in the conscious world.  This sounds a bit hokey but running truly takes the runner to another world within.  Sometimes I wish I had a notepad when running so that I could take notes of all the thoughts that pass through my running mind.  They seem to disappear only to be encountered again on the next run.  Maybe this is why I plan my next run before finishing my current one.

Age: 49

Years Running: Started long distance running in 1993 initially as a way to control weight and be in reasonable physical aerobic shape.  Other exposure to running was 4 years as a sprinter (100 and 200 meters) in high school track.

Distances: Have run all distances from the 5K to the 50 mile Ultra. As a masters runner, average race pace is between 7:30 minutes and 10 minutes per mile depending on distance.

Races:  Typically 10-20 races per year.  Completed  48 marathons, 2 -50K Ultras and 4- 50 milers, 51 since 2000. Career marathons include NYC (2), Baltimore (9), Grandma's, NJ Shore (3), Florida Gulf Beaches, Philadelphia, Ocean Drive (NJ), Vermont City, Richmond, Las Vegas, Memphis, Cleveland, Hatfield & McCoy (WV), Lewis & Clark (MO), Detroit, Houston, Little Rock, Delaware, Sunburst (IN), Adirondack (NY), Cape Cod (MA), Charlotte, Providence, Demar (NH), Mississippi Blues, Rock n Roll Phoenix, Carlsbad (CA), Mercedes (AL), Lower Potomac River (MD), Deadwood-Michelson Trail (SD), Green Bay (WI), Kentucky Derby (KY), ING Atlanta (GA), Boulder (CO), Freedom's Shepherdstown (WV), Harrisburg (PA), Route 66 Tulsa (OK)
