Quote of the Day

I love quotes!  I love quotes especially around running because what we get out of running applies to many other areas of life.  So, I thought I would share when I see one that I like, one that is just plain funny, or one that is deeper than the thought patterns we're in when we are running.  The Runner's World Forumites also have some great quotes in their signatures.  I will make every effort to give credit where credit is due!  Remember, we are all quotable!

Happy Running!

"Our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson, writer and poet

"Some people drink to impair their judgement, I run marathons to impair mine.  Both are addictions but the difference is one is negative and one is positive.  Get addicted ro running or at least something positive! "

"The obsession with running is really an obsession with the potential for more and more life"

George Sheehan

"One thing about racing is that it hurts.  You better accept that from the beginning or you're not going anywhere."

Bob Kennedy, US Olympian

"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift"

Steve Prefontaine

"Some people run a race to see who's the fastest, I run a race to see who has the most guts"

Steve Prefontaine

From Lynne Ash...

"I run because it’s my passion, and not just a sport. Every time I walk out the door, I know why I’m going where I’m going and I’m already focused on that special place where I find my peace and solitude. Running, to me, is more than just a physical xercise... it's a consistent reward for victory!" - Quote by Sasha Azevedo, Runner/Athlete

Sasha Azevedo, Runner/Athelete

"We have been told time and again we were born to success, but a truly run marathon convinces us of that truth"

George Sheehan in Personal Best

"The challenge in running is not to aim at doing the things no one else has done, but to keep doing things everyone could do - but most never will."

Joe Henderson

"Respect the distance or the distance won't respect you!  It will eat you up, spit you out and make you beg for mercy"

Michael Shilling referring to the 26.2 mile distance of the marathon and related to Juma Ikangaa's quote

One of my favorites is from Juma Ikangaa...

"The will to win is nothing without the will to prepare"

Each of us who run, win in our own personal way.  For us to win, we must prepare.

From Suzanne...

"Make winter a reason, not an excuse." ~Gary Allen, MDI Marathon Race Director
